Dr. Michael Hortsch is Professor in the Departments of Cell and Developmental Biology and of Learning Health Sciences at the University of Michigan Medical School. He joined UM in 1991, where he performed research on the biological role of neural cell adhesion molecules. Since 2010, he concentrates his professional efforts on medical education, specifically the teaching histology to medical, dental, and undergraduate/graduate students. He is a Fellow of the American Association for Anatomy and the recipient of the association’s 2023 Henry Gray Distinguished Educator Award. In 2025, he received the Elizabeth Crosby Award for outstanding pre-clinical basic science teaching from the University of Michigan Galens Medical Society.
